About Us
General Information
The purpose of air traffic control is to ensure the safe execution of aircraft flights from their departure point to their destination and to manage all stages of the flight. In addition to ensuring the safety of aircraft within the responsible airspace, air traffic control is also responsible for regulating air traffic flow and improving system efficiency.
The Air Traffic Control Department provides undergraduate-level education to train air traffic controller candidates. During the program, the necessary basic and theoretical courses for air traffic control are taught, along with practical applications of these theories in air traffic control simulators. The education also provides the scientific foundation required to solve traffic system problems such as air traffic delays, capacity issues, aircraft trajectory prediction, and aircraft separation processes.
Air traffic controller candidates must have English proficiency at level 4 (Level 4) as required by the rules of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Civil Aviation General Directorate of our country. The department aims to teach students the methods necessary for air traffic control using new technologies. Another goal is to equip students with research and problem-solving skills through experimental and theoretical applications conducted in teamwork. During internships, students reinforce the knowledge gained in courses through real-world applications.
Complying with the regulations of EUROCONTROL and the Civil Aviation General Directorate is a fundamental requirement for air traffic controller training. Fırat University collaborates with TÜBİTAK, Havelsan, and DHMI to procure tower, radar en-route, approach, and ground control simulators for this purpose.
Students admitted to the department are selected through a special aptitude test with international validity. The special aptitude test is conducted under the cooperation protocol between the State Airports Authority (DHMI) and Fırat University.
Vision
To train air traffic controllers who are proficient in scientific research techniques, capable of monitoring and evaluating academic developments and practices at the national and international levels, and who can present the knowledge and experience gained from original and independent research for the benefit of society. Additionally, to carry out scientific studies in solidarity with the Turkic Republics.
Mission
In alignment with Fırat University's mission and vision, to provide efficient education that trains researchers who can produce scientific knowledge suited to current conditions, fully utilize information and communication technologies, and benefit from the latest technological advancements.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Students who have graduated from or discontinued undergraduate or graduate programs at other formal education institutions may be exempt from overlapping courses in their program, provided the course content is compatible.
